Wine Storage

When storing wines conistency is key. Keep your wines out of the light and at a constant temperature, between 60 and 65 degrees is ideal. Of course if you have a basement that is usually the ideal place to store wines. Add a few wine racks and store your wines on their side. Rotate them occasionally so that the corks don’t dry out and allow air to enter.

If you don’t have a basement you may wish to invest in a wine cooler. These refrigerated units are designed to provide the perfect environment for storing your wine. Many are quite inexpensive.

But let’s face it, there is a difference between the utilitarian need to store wine and the joy of experiencing the wine at rest. Try panelling a corner of your basement with a pre-finished hardwood floor, extending the walls down to the floor in the corner. Add a few wonderful wine racks, a decanter, a table and two chairs, and some low voltage lighting for a quiet spot to enjoy a glass or two.
